Different meaning of different roses

Perfect for any situation, season and circumstance from anniversary to ceremonies, rose is the ultimate choice of anyone, may be lovers, husband wives or friends. Not only today but it is believed that rose was used with equal important by Cleopatra and Victoria and was popular as well. But since roses are available in different colors and shades, it is important to know the meaning of different rose and how to choose for different occasions. Otherwise wrong rose may send different, sometime negative meaning to the receiver.

Meaning of Red rose

Among all the colors of the roses, red is probably the widely used one comparatively and considered Queen of roses. Before talking about the meaning of red rose, let me tell you something about the history of red roses and how it has been used. Even in the ancient Greek, red rose was used to symbolize love and romance. Besides, red roses were used as decorator in wedding ceremonies, written in many songs and other media.

Until now red rose has been used to convey Love and romance and popularly known as Lover’s rose. So, it is used to say “I love you” to your special one. By giving red rose you show respect, true love, your passion, courage. If you want to show that you want to take your new relation to the next level, you may give a red rose. Similarly red rose is also used to signify beauty and perfection and congratulate someone and to say I am sorry in romantic way! Red rose is among the prefect gifts on Valentine’s Day.

In the same way, shade of red has its own meaning. Since red is related to love and romance, withered red rose shows the end of love or romance.

Meaning of White Rose

White rose is believed to be the first rose origioned among all the varieties of the roses. Traditionally white rose has been used in bridal ceremonies to symbolize pureness, virtue and true love which is long lasting and never dying even after the death of the human body. So, white rose is also called Bridal rose. White roses are used to signify purity, innocence, spirituality and reverence.

By giving white rose you want to say “you are heavenly” and express sincerity. Similarly, it has also been used to show honor and respect.

Meaning of Pink Rose

Being available in different shades, pink rose is popularly used to show gratitude, happiness, appreciation, and gracefulness. In this sense, if you want to say Thank you, the best way may be by giving pink rose.

Said available in different shades, each has its own meaning. Dark pink rose mainly signify gratitude and appreciation while light pink symbolize gentleness, admiration and sympathy.

Meaning of Yellow rose


Yellow rose is thought to be discovered in seventeenth century. In the beginning days, mainly in Europe, yellow rose were used to signify jealousy and dying love. However, with time its meaning also has changed and yellow rose of widely associated with friendship, joy, gladness, care.

From its discovery, yellow rose is closely related to the sun. We know sun is the main source of energy for us. It is believed in many societies that warmness from the sun we get has very positive and pleasing effect in our lifestyle. So, you can use yellow colored rose to make someone’s day.

Though rose of other colors are associated with romantic closeness, love, yellow rose has nothing to so with romance. Yellow rose if the perfect way to say I am sorry in non romantic way. This relates yellow rose with platonic love.

Meaning of Orange rose

Orange rose as from its appearance is closely related to desire, strong feeling and passion to do something, enthusiasm and associated with fire. Being a mixture of red and yellow, orange rose singly can symbolize love and romance signified by red and friendship by yellow rose. In this form, by giving yellow rose you want to show that you want to take your friendship relation with the person whom you are giving the rose to level of romance and love and show affection.

These days, orange rose is being popularly used as Halloween flower mainly in western countries.

Meaning of Lavender rose

If you want to send the message that you fell in love with someone at the first sight then the best and perfect way is to send Lavender rose. So this signifies that lavender colored rose is associated with mystery and uniqueness which is there inside someone.

Meaning of Green rose

Green is color of nature, richness, abundance. Green rose is used to express freshness, rejuvenation and power. Though not used widely and found abundantly, green rose has very strong meaning in the sense of new life, pureness and new spirit.

Meaning of Black rose

Black rose has always been used very less since it symbolizes death and end of life or something else. In the same way as Green rose, black rose has also been found in less number. Being sadness, mourning, sorrow and unhappiness concerned with the black color, rose of this color is used to express loss, bereavement.

At the same time black rose is also associated with the end of some difficult time, era, and negative habits. In this sense, black rose has its own positive meaning as well.
